Error: Disk can't keep up

Post by Elprebse »

Is anyone else experiencing this error in the log, when a camera is triggered?

I'm having this too after the recent upgrade. I'm running 2 Element HDD over USB 3.0, one for new and one for storage. Camera's are writing direct to disk.

Seems to have been solved in today’s BI update

I updated and still have the error. Anyone have a way to test the hard drive speed?

It's built in to recent versions. Go to alert list and right click for menu. Go to database/ Status window. You can then click on the arrows to see the individual drive read/write speeds.

I checked my logs, and there were two cameras showing this. Since they are both on a powerline ethernet socket, I just rebooted that set up.

I have had the same unchanged setup for past few years, but only in last few days have I been seeing this error on quite a few of my cameras.

"It's built in to recent versions."

So, is this a "potential issue" that has "always been there" but only now visible since this error was added?
What does it mean is actually happening?? Is it saying data is being lost?

I meant the hard drive speed measuring part. The error is new :o

Bottom left of BI5 screen, right click on image to get menu. Database/ Status Window. You can then see your drives by scrolling with the <> buttons. My SSD for NEW (etc) looks like this:

And if I click on the blue "maxrates" hyperlink I get this:

I think Ken has highlighted that some of us have an issue that we didn't know about, and given us the tools to analyse the hard drives. I guess you can ignore the warnings, as I think the actual problem was always there, but then again, it could show an ageing hard drive - or in my case that I needed to reboot my powerline ethernet devices.

I am a long time BI user and have 8+ systems running.

On my personal home, this issue popped up over the past few days. Running a robust machine with an older LSI-9260 (recalling from memory) on WD 16TB drives.

It appears to happen when it rescans/deletes old clips?
I am also running docker WSL2 on HyperV for a few other services, non that are hard drive intensive (eg NGINX Swag), but not sure of the issue.

Example:

Code: Select all

Clips: 1036 items, 5492/5502GB; D: +161.4GB, C: +745.2GB

4/26/2024 7:38:49 PM Barn: Clip: Disk can't keep up
4/26/2024 7:38:48 PM Front: Clip: Disk can't keep up
4/26/2024 7:38:48 PM Shed: Clip: Disk can't keep up
4/26/2024 7:38:36 PM Alerts: Delete: nothing to do [0.00/1.00GB, 170.0GB free] (29)
4/26/2024 7:38:36 PM New: Delete: 1 items 7.81GB [5500/5500GB, 162.2GB free] (29)

Another example:

Code: Select all

Clips: 1021 items, 5499/5502GB; D: +161.4GB, C: +744.6GB

4/25/2024 3:57:28 AM Alerts: Delete: nothing to do [0.00/1.00GB, 163.6GB free] (210)
4/25/2024 3:57:28 AM New: Delete: nothing to do [5498/5500GB, 163.6GB free] (210)
4/25/2024 3:17:29 AM Barn: Clip: Disk can't keep up (2)
4/25/2024 3:17:29 AM Back: Clip: Disk can't keep up (3)
4/25/2024 3:17:29 AM Side: Clip: Disk can't keep up (2)
4/25/2024 3:17:28 AM Front: Clip: Disk can't keep up (2)
4/25/2024 3:17:14 AM Stored: Delete: nothing to do [0/336 hrs, 0.00/1.00GB, 745.6GB free]
