Which Coral TPU

Post by TrunkMonkey »

I see there's a lot of talk about leveraging a Coral TPU instead of a GPU for AI. I'm currently using a GTX 1650 for CodeProject AI and it's working very well, but would really like to to lower power consumption without sacrificing too much on AI detection.

Which Coral TPU are people buying and where's a good place in the US to buy from?

Thanks

Note that the Coral works on "tiny" settings, so is unlikely to increase accuracy compared to a GTX1650.

The type of Coral TPU will vary based on your computer hardware. The two main types are the USB version and the PCIe version. You may need a NVme M.2 slot for the PCIe version. Make sure your M.2 slot is NVMe and not SATA. They can look the same, but I believe the current Coral TPU's require the NVMe M.2 slot.

They can be hard to find in-stock depending on which version you need. Here is some additional information and possible purchase locations.

Here are the main types of Coral TPU's:

Mini PCI TPU: https://coral.ai/products/pcie-accelerator/

A+E Key TPU: https://coral.ai/products/m2-accelerator-ae/

B+M Key TPU: https://coral.ai/products/m2-accelerator-bm/
https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Co ... MhyQ%3D%3D
It is important to note that you must have a M.2 NVMe PCIe slot for this to work. It shares the same form factor as an M.2 Sata slot, but the TPU is not compatible with the Sata M.2 slot.

USB TPU: https://coral.ai/products/accelerator/

You can also find them on Amazon or Ebay, but you might have to pay a premium until the stock levels rise.

Here are some custom adapters that may come in handy. These don't include the Coral TPU though.
