Corrupt Video unable to view clips

Post by Merlin02131 »

Greetings

Posted last night but unable to find it
When selecting a clip and viewing I get a corrupt video msg and unable to open the clip .
This occurred about 4 months ago after an update but not exactly sure when
Latest Blue Iris release as we rebuilt due to being hacked
Took the existing Database from the old config ( Back up ) and re installed
13 cameras
Latest Blue Iris version 5.5 x?
4 other sites on older release's ( early 5.x code) not having this issue
Returning to the site today to get more info
An old post stated to turn off 2fast in Blue Iris Settings which I did
Shut off Hardware accelerator
Are there any logs that would show more info ?

Seems like this comes back to haunt us every so often and when we fix it something changes possibly after an update
Latest Windows updates etc. as well
Ryzen 5700 processor
Lenovo PC SSD etc. with an external drive for storage

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thx
Regards

Hi,
Are you saving clips as bvr or something different ? Latest BI5 is in the v5.7 range. There was an issue at one stage with database instability, but that usually made recordings disappear from the list rather than corrupt them. The LOG is available by clicking the Status button on the BI5 screen, it looks like a graph with an arrow going up. Then click on Log on the left. Anything obvious ?

Good Morning Tim

Onsite now getting full details
Release 5.7.8.0 ( 7-19-23) I was way off !

Think I found it as I am running the cameras now and recording to test

Under the camera settings compression was set to re encode with settings ( Somehow this got changed ) Encoder H264 etc.

I set it back to Direct to Disk and the new saved recordings seem to be fine opening ..

Only question is how to fix the older recordings getting them to view/open without changing more settings etc.

Yea I have been sing the log but was looking for something a bit more technical
But thats ok for now

The site got hacked a while back and we chased the hackers down and cleaned them up ( Hopefully gone now ! )
I copied the Db and installed it in the new rebuilt Windows 11 Pro but somehow Compression changed
Finding gremlins left in here !

Appreciate the quick answer !
Thx

You can’t just restore an old database backup as it is this file that keeps track of all the recordings and if you restore from an old backup then it won’t know about anything new?

Whenever I’ve had clip issues I tend to try doing a regen of the database or in the worst case simply stopping the Bi service, then deleting the content of the database folder and then restarting Bi. On start it will rebuild the database. In both cases you will lose your alerts.

Yea I am seeing this exactly what you say .
I tried all of the regen options and nothing seem to work
I get an error 8000 on the clip/alert trying to open it
What is interesting is that the new clips cannot be read and they too are not able to open either after a while !
As soon as they are listed I can open them but after a few minutes or so I am unable to open them .

Are you saying trash the whole clip db and start all over ?

Ugh

Thx as I appreciate the help !

Yes just the database files, not the actual recording files.

If you do as I’ve stated above and delete the contents of the BI database folder, in restart of BI it should fully rebuild the database.

Also you say latest BI 5.5.x but there are versions later than this so what version are you actually running as there were versions where the DB would report errors like you are seeing. If in doubt go back to the latest stable release.

Good Morning IAmTeaf

Thx for the reply

The BI Version is 5.7.x the latest as I just updated last week

I'll do this tomorrow when I get onsite

I DID do a complete rebuild/regenerate but I did not delete the contents of the BI database

Thx and I'll post the results when I get done

Right now we can view live cameras but no saved clips/alerts etc.

Thx

Just making sure you know this is a menu option. I have never actually gone to the folder to delete the db file. This has been enough so far:
