Frame Advance (Step Forward)

Post by SuperDave57 »

Hello all, in Blue Iris 4 there was a button labeled "step forward" one could use while playing back video that would advance one frame at a time. I can't find any way to do that with Blue Iris 5. Does anyone know if this is still a feature and/or how to do it? Thanks!

1. In BI settings, go to 'Keyboard shortcuts' tab.
2. Click 'Add'
3. Select Function 'Step Forward'.
4. Click 'Set to next command typed', then press the key or key combination to assign the function.

Do the same for the 'Step Backward' function.

I've assigned the 'gamer' type keys for playback - asdwx
a - Reverse play (addition presses will increase reverse play speed)
s - Play/Pause
d - Play (addition presses will increase play speed)
w - Step Forward'
x - Step Backward

I've also assign the following...
[ - Previous alert/-30s
] - Next alert/+30s

Having these keys assigned allows me to have both hands on the keyboard while I navigate the recordings without having to take my eyes off the video.

And to set marks and export...
SHIFT-s - Set start frame
SHIFT-e - Set end frame
SHIFT-x - Convert/Export

Your welcome.

I also have a ShuttlePro v2 by Contour. I use it mainly for video editing with Roxio Videowave and Davinci, but it also works great with BlueIris, VLC, Web browsers. I use it in Starcraft II and other games, for macros to execute several commands at once.

I also just figured out (by accident...LOL) that you can also frame advance with your mouse wheel if you are hovered over the play/pause speed control area.
