Install bi4 on a new computer

Post by drjap338 »

I have installed bi4 on a new computer (windows 10 pro), but get a error message when I click on "blue iris admin'' from the programs list.

Have you tried installing BI5 instead, or is there a reason you need BI4 ?

I'm a little afraid of paying for something that may not work on windows 10, given the fact that bi4 won't work. What's going on with that? Is bi4 not functional on windows 10, or is there a setting somewhere in the guts of the os that will allow me to get it running?

At some point in the past year, BI4 changed its dependencies for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. Download the "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019" from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -downloads and install "vc_redist.x64.exe" for BI4 64-bit or "vc_redist.x86.exe" for BI4 32-bit.

Bl5 has the same requirement, but I believe the installer installs "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019". If you don't have a license key for BI4 yet, there is no reason not to install BI5. All development has stopped with BI4. I have been a Blue Iris user since 2009 using 2.x, 3.x, 4.x and now 5.x. The developer is very active with implementing new features and fixing problems. While BI5 is a new release, I have been using it for now 3 weeks with no problems. I am using Blue Iris 5 version 5.0.0.59 64-bit.

A piece of advice, turn off "Automatic Download and Install" in Blue Iris Settings -> About tab. Only update when a needed feature is released or to fix a problem.

I'm guessing it is the Visual C++ redistributable that reddawg suggested or some other missing requirement as many of us are using BI4 or BI5 on Windows 10 32bit or 64bit. I'm still running BI4 on Windows 10 1809 64bit but have seen others say they are running 32bit Windows 10 and I've seen some that say the are running BI5 on 32bit and 64bit Windows 10.
