Smart PSS

Post by tombone »

Is there anybody with Smart PSS experience and Dahua cam?
I was just wondering bout the following: A Dahua cam on a remote site, when connected through Smart PSS via Port 37777: Picture totally smooth, high quality, bitrate and frame rate really fast.
When connecting the same camera to Blue Iris via RTSP (on the very same computer): Bitrate extremely low, framerate laughable and stuttering and frequent "no signal" error.
I can even run Blue Iris next to Smart PSS at the same time and the results are the same.
So I am wondering what is special about Smart PSS and port 37777 that it has such a superiour performance over RTSP connection with Blue Iris.

Sadly no answer yet.

I figured out so far that via port 37777 there seems to be a proprietary Dahua protocol running.
If anybody has more information on this, I would appreciate a comment. It seems that this proprietary protocol is far superior over RTSP. As said connection via RTSP is slow and I see many dropping frames and it lages behind. Connecting to the same cam via port 37777 and this proprietary protocol the HD stream is smoth and really realtime.

So it would be a HUGE benefit if there is a way to incorporate this protocol into BI. If anybody has an idea if this could be achieved, I would be interested to hear.

From my research it seems that there have been attempts in the past to develop clients specificall for this protocol: http://tanidvr.sourceforge.net/ or https://www.npmjs.com/package/dvripclient which I haven't tried yet. But this shows that even if the protocol is proprietary it could be possible to make use of it in Blue Iris and offer an additional option to connect to a Dahua cam.

The issue is still present.

I have found a similar topic on ipcamtalk: https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/problems- ... tsp.43205/

It is basically saying what I have described: Super smooth and responsive camera view with Smart PSS, laggy view with huge delays, stuttering and frozen screens with Blue Iris and also with FFMPEG an VLC. Same camer, same line, same computer even side by side.
So if everything is capable of smooth playback why does it not work via RTSP?

Did you ask this over at ipcamtalk? Any response there?
Dedicated Blue Iris 5 PC : HP ProDesk i5-8500, 8gb RAM, 256gb M.2 SSD(for BI and Windows 10), 8tb drive shucked from WD EasyStore.
Two cameras so far: one IPC-HDW5231R-ZE and one IPC-T5442TM-AS, eventually looking to have about 6 or 7 cameras.

No, I have not posted at ipcamtalk but I followed that thread: https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/problems- ... tsp.43205/

It seems to be a resolution issue. The terrible RTSP malfunctioning happens when monitoring the HD RTSP stream. The stream with lower resolution plays fine.
But this cannot be the solution.
Initially I thought it is a BI specific problem but it seems it is not. I am really wondering now if this is a Dahua built in feature so that you are forced to use their Smart PSS application?
