Post by dw1984 »

Hi All

I am about to build a kickass system for customers sites (we are a UK Broadband company) and i have had one of our suppliers to spec up a high-spec system to record upto 64x cameras and keep 30 days retention of recordings. I am wondering if someone who has every build such a system could have a look at the below spec and see if this would be sufficient as there is no actual processor spec on BlueIris's website which would of been a great help.

Spec is as follows:

CTO Rackmount workstaon
Codegen V2 500mm deep rackmount case,
Core I7-10700 CPU
ASRock Z490 Extreme4 Intel Socket 1200 10th Gen ATX HDMI/Dis playPort Dual M.2 USB C RGB Motherboard
Kingston HyperX 16GB FURY Black Heatsink (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2400 MHz DIMM System Memory
2 x Kingston SSDNow A400 240GB SATA III SSD
4 x Seagate IronWolf NAS ST8000VN004 8TB 3.5" 7200RPM 256MB Cache Sata lll Internal Hard Drive
Antec HCP 1000W 135mm Double Ball Bearing Fan 80 PLUS Plan um Fully Modular PSU
Microso Windows 10 Professional 64bit English OEI DVD Operating Soware
LSI MegaRAID 9440-8i - Storage controller (RAID) - 8 Channel Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 TI OC 4GB GDDR5 WINDFORCE 2X Cooling System Graphics Card

Any help would be appreciated or alternative specs would also be a great help.

Thanks in advance

There may be an issue with using SSD's for the BI database (if that's what your planning).

I tested this for about 3 weeks, using a 2tb Seagate SSD for the BI database. The performance viewing the timeline was impressive. But, there were several glitches and crashes I started experiencing. They went away when I switched back to the 4tb Seagate Skyhawk.

Curious to know where you landed with your configuration and overall performance. I am getting ready to build a system about half your size and would appreciate any insights you might have on what you have done.

I can't advise on such large installations, but have you seen this site which compares users BI5 performance with different hardware: https://biupdatehelper.hopto.org/default.html#stats

Any updates on progress for this post? I have a similar deployment for a 501c19 I am planning for in the next couple of months and this would be interesting/helpful.

Thanks.
