Motion zones - Home automation

Currently I'm only using Zone A on my motion to trigger recordings.

I just set up my smartthings with Blueiris Fusion so I can turn on my outside lights when the cameras detect motion.

Everything is working good, but the lights are getting turned on too much by cars driving by at night. (I want to record those triggers, but not turn the lights on).

Would the correct way to do this be create another motion zone that's a little smaller and use that for triggering the lights?

What happens though when both zones get triggered, is that going to cause duplicate clips/alerts and clutter up my timeline?

NO, both zones getting trigger will not produce duplicate alerts.

Set up another profile to use at night, with different settings to reduce the triggers. Use the scheduler to change to the profile at sunset and sunrise, using the relative setting. You'll need to enter your long/lat for this to work.

I realize this is a simple description. There are plenty of posts describing this. Please search for them.

I like "Zone Crossing" do reduce false triggers.

I'll have to play around with it.

I don't live on a busy street, but I'm right at an intersection where when cars travel thru, totally pan my house, front, and side yards with their headlights.
To make my main zone smaller, even at night I would miss a lot of yard where somebody could be walking up to the house.

Here's a quick example from last night.

I get the same at night with cars turning the corner. It's a little better during the winter when the snowbanks get high enough to help block the headlights! If It were possible, I'd put in hedges, or a small picket fence!

I'll admit, I kinda slacked off on figuring out how to deal with it. It's just a minor annoyance for me. But if I were on a busy street it would be another story.

Mostly I'm afraid to dial settings back enough to stop it, then end up missing some important motion.
