BI 5 Keeps just shutting down

Post by MJD »

While im navigating cameras and settings on cameras in BI 5 it will just shut down randomly. I was having problems with BI 4 so i upgraded to BI 5 and now BI 5 is acting worse than BI 4. I did not pay $75 for crappy software. I have used BI 3 and BI 4 for years without issue, why is it acting up now especially after an upgrade as well as installing the updates after upgrading. It will not even ask me if i want it to shut down like it did before it just shuts down loosing my settings i may have entered when it shut down. This is real frustrating.

Is the potential there that this is a newly introduced incompatibility/issue with your system that isn't completely down to BI? You noted that you ran BI4 for years and recently ran into issues so you upgraded to BI5 - which also is showing issues. Maybe it's not BI. I'm not intending to point fingers, just looking/thinking outside the box. Otherwise this post is just a rant vs seeking help.

I have been experiencing a random shutdown issue myself. There is nothing in the log that says why, just "restarted due to unexpected shutdown (1500/240)" What does that mean?

The shutdowns have been intermittent and seem to occur after midnight. i get no video recordings unless i log into the server and the service restarts.

Im running 5.2.7.12 as of 5/14/2020 The hardware is a dell r720 with esxi and BI running on server 2016. Have not had any issues up till the last 2 weeks. also noticed that since the upgrade to .12 my cpu usage has been twice what it normally is.

I'm not experiencing shutdowns, but after the last couple of updates the BI window somehow gets resized in the middle of the night, shrunk to about 1/4 screen or so. Double-clicking the frame restores it.

I have no idea why this started.....my BI system is very stable and I almost never make changes to it.

I had the crashing problem when I upgraded to 5.2.8.0 as well.

After some troubleshooting and a lot of rolling back and forth between versions, I found the problem.

Troubleshooting tip: before upgrading, disable all your cameras. After upgrading, enable one at a time to find the culprit.

I had cameras with continuous direct to disc recording as MP4. I had to change them to record as BVR files before 5.2.8.0 stabilized.

I'm currently trading emails with Ken about this, so hopefully he can recreate and fix the issue.

I was seeing this as well, downgrading to 5.2.7.12 resolved it for me. Looking in the windows event log I was able to find these errors:
