Handy FOV/Viewing Angle chart

Post by Thixotropic »

This might come in handy for planning purposes - a chart that shows you the coverage area for various focal lengths, viewing angles, and distances.

In the past, I went to google maps to bring up my yard. Then used a protractor on the screen to figure the angles and distance!

Wow this is pretty cool stuff I didn't know existed. I recently used Google Maps and compared the actual image of my camera to map my viewable zones and find my blind spots I wanted to cover. One of my specific cameras isn't listed on the site but I can get pretty close.

It would be great to have a table. But I am not sure about focal length < 4 mm and wide angle cameras.
For Hanwha Techwin XNV-6080 2.8mm - the horizontal angle is 119. In the chart above is 109.
For example for Hikvision AE-V122T-IT(S) 2.1mm the angle is 121. In the chart is 128.

I wonder if its a difference in advertised viewing angle vs actual. Some of mine are shown as having a measly 70* but in reality it's more than that. It would take a lot of research and testing to get that level of info on each camera though sooooo, maybe I'm just blowing smoke.

The only choice is to use manufacturer's specifications or calculators with built-in database of camera models where there are angles from camera manufacturers.
JVSG tool has a database of camera models with specified angles.
So you get angles like 119 for Hanwha XNV 6080

At the end of last year, JVSG also released a free CCTV calculator , which also has a database of camera models with specified angles.
