Reeolink Cameras Bringing BI to it's Knees :-(

Post by berthiaumej »

I have been a long time loyal fan of Blue Iris since early 2011. I've had an ancient camera fleet consisting of old Foscam cameras. I since added two fairly new Reolink cameras (see attached specs) to the group. Running them with Reolink native software, they work wonderfully. When adding them to the fold on Blue Iris 4 (Release 4.8.6.3 x64 / OS is Windows 10 Pro), resources become immediately maxed and BI crashes. I have followed different guidance from other BI users, but nothing works. Should BI5 fix the problem? I'm at a loss. Please advise.

Hi,

We will try to help if we can. Can you add screenshots of the BI settings for these cameras ? And details of your pc (CPU etc).

Did you fix this?
Follow any of the guides on the internet, showing how to reduce CPU usage with BI.
- Always use direct to disk recording
- Disable BI Overlays
- Use Hardware Decoding (check your CPU supports Intel Quicksync)
It's often the motion detection that consumes BI resources,
- Lower Frame Rates
- Disable High-Definition if enabled
- Test usage with motion detection disabled
Remember BI is not just viewing the stream, so it is not really a like for like comparison, you would expect BI to use a lot more resources.
A decent spec machine for BI should only be around $200-$250. just needs to be modern with decent specs. Seems very light on the RAM even with a ton of cameras.

I purchased (2) Reolink cameras trying to just expand my camera horizons.

I use a laptop to program the IP addy's then add them to my regular network.

Upon adding them to the network, it's like a spanning tree attack on the network itself. I wiresharked the network and they were FLOODING the network with discoveries. I put both of them back in the boxes and put them on the shelf.

Does anyone know if it would be worth my while to upgrade to BI5? Or are the Reolink cameras just trash. I saw Glenn's comment that he shelfed his.... :-(
