Foscam VD1 doorbell cam

Post by zguy »

Hey there,

Just got one of those Foscam VD1 doorbell cam https://www.foscam.com/VD1.html. Based on specs, it supports the RTSP protocol. But no matter what I try, I just can't find how to connect it to BI.

I did perused internet, but to no avail. There seems to be several other brands of this cam, RCA and EZsomething... But the settings I found don't work in BI.

For the record, I'm running BI 4.8.2.6. Yeah, somewhat old. Still, I have 13 cams on it and all rock solid. And RTSP works fine with it, provided the URL is known. I do have a couple of Foscam cams but the URL for this one is different.

The doorbell in question works great in the Foscam mobile app on my phone and tablet. Also works fine in Foscam Video Management System PC app. I just can't get it working in BI.

If I manually scan for it in BI, I get this:

Code: Select all

Hi - I have this working, but it needs to be set up as follows. Don't use the inspect function when adding.

Enter IP appended with port, e.g. 111.111.111.111:88 then username and password
Don't inspect
Make: Generic/ONVIF
Model: *RTSP H.264/H.265/MJPG/MPEG4
Main (default): /videoMain
RTSP port: 88
ONVIF port: 888

(Unless you changed ports using the Foscam PC software)

It works just fine. I can't get it to connect with Alexa though, so that's my main problem. The camera side is all good, but I need either some chimes or I need Alexa to ring or I'll never hear it...!

What I do for my frontdoor doorbell is to, via BI, send a push notification to my Android phone. That way I always get notified, even if I'm away from home.
