5.0.5.6 x64 feedback and bugs

Post by toddgibbs123 »

Hi,

Just reporting some issues with 5.0.5.6 x64 - hopes its useful

I have 7 cameras, one of which I use twice (with different zones), this is on a gate post. One of the instances is 'road' and the other is 'gate'.' Gate' triggers if someone enters the gate, 'Road' records every car that drives up my (private) road.

The issues Im finding are :-

1. The zones (ie A->B etc) don't seem to work. I have two rectangles (zone A and B) that overlap but no matter what I try it won't trigger the camera.
2. Some cameras, when triggered manually (right click camera and select 'trigger') will record for 7 minutes, not 10 seconds. This is also true for a camera group that is triggered by another camera (ie, the 'Gate' camera triggers a 'Driveway' camera group... which will record for 7 minutes).
3. The software crashes quite often, especially when accessed via the (iPhone) app
4. The iphone App crashes quite often since the last 2 updates

hopefully this helps - I can provide more info if required (No.2) is the critical one for me

Thanks
Todd.

This is not a valid zone rule using A->B. If you want a one way directional rule use A>B. This will only trigger when an object crosses from Zone A into Zone B, but not from Zone B to A. If you want a bi-directional rule use A-B. This rule will trigger when an object crosses from Zone A into B and vice versa. There are some excellent YouTube videos on Blue Iris Zone Crossing by HomeTech Video.

Please specify how you are recording, When Triggered or Continuous? Please post a message with a screenshot from the following in Blue Iris camera settings:
Camera settings -> Triggers
Camera Settings -> Trigger -> Configure
Camera Settings -> Record

What is the CPU utilization of your PC running Blue Iris when using the iPhone mobile app and the other times? You can check this in Task Manager. I suspect your CPU is being maxed out at 100%. Depending upon your PC's processor model you may need to optimize Blue Iris configuration.

1. Don't run your IP cameras at 30fps, reduce the frame rate to 10-15fps. This change must be done from each IP camera's User Interface using your web browser.
2. In Blue Iris, use Direct-to-disk instead of re-encoding the video stream from each camera.
3. In Blue Iris Settings -> Cameras, select "Limit live preview rate" to 5-10 fps. This does not affect recording.
4. You may be able to use "hardware accelerated decode" if you have an Intel processor that supports Intel Quick Sync or have a NVidia GPU card that supports NVidia NVDEC.

Further note on Zone crossings:

If you create two zones, Zone A (road) and Zone B (driveway), they should not overlap each other. If they do, this could cause problems where motion doesn't trigger. Here is how you should setup your zones.

1. From Blue Iris camera settings -> Trigger tab -> Configure.
2. Select "Use Zones and Hotspot" and click Edit.
3. Under Zone A, click the Clear button and then draw your Zone for the road.
4. Change the Zone to Zone B and draw your Zone for your gate/driveway. Make sure Zone A and Zone B do not touch or overlap. This is covered in the YouTube videos.
5. Change the Zone to Zone C and draw a Zone that encompasses both Zone A and Zone B or the entire screen. This zone, Zone C does not get included in the Object crosses zones rules.
6. Save your Zones by clicking the OK button.
7. Select "Object Detect" and then click Edit.
8. Select "Object crosses zones" and enter A-B
9. Save by clicking OK button.

For now, do not concern yourself with "Object Travels (pixels)" and "Object size exceeds". Once Zone crossing is working you can enable these options to better fine tune zone crossing.

HI Reddawg

Thanks so much for your detailed replay.

Typically, I deleted the camera and re-added it, which seems to have solved the problem. But I have included the screenshots you requested just in case...

(part 2)

I watched one of the videos about zones, which is how I set them up (my mistake about a->b instead of typing a-b). And I have it set up exactly as you described already...

I left it all day like this with zero triggers (many people walked/drove through this gate)

(part 3)

CPU usage :-

without iphone connected:-

There is no noticeable changed from what i can see. I will try the optimisations you suggested though as there is no point burning cycles ;)

Thanks again for your help

Todd.

Actually, after removing the 'object travels' and 'object size exceeds' the gate A-B zones is working - guess that was stopping it for some reason.

Thanks!

Your very welcome. Glad you got it working. The "Object Travels" setting is the number of pixels the object has to travel in order to trigger motion in addition to meeting Min Object size, Min Contrast and Make Time. The "Object size exceeds" settings stops or resets a trigger if the object size is too big, like a lighting change. If "Object Travels" is too large in comparison to your Zone A or B map or the percentage of "Object size exceeds" is too small, it could prevent motion from triggering. Better to leave them off, like you did.

It appears that your CPU utilization is not being maxed out nor the cause of your crashing. Have you checked how much disk space is free? Are you running Blue Iris as an application or service? Maybe post a picture of your crash log of Blue Iris from the Windows Application Log. Also, what Antivirus software are you running and did you exclude the following Blue Iris folders from your AV?

C:\BlueIris\db
C:\BlueIris\Alerts
C:\BlueIris\New
C:\BlueIris\Storage
C:\Program Files\Blue Iris 5
C:\ProgramData\Blue Iris\temp

I don't think the help file covers this adequately. I raised a similar point a few weeks ago, asking if the alternative triggers were OR or AND (etc.) with each other. Your explanation is best I have seen yet
