Dedicated Substream Camera - Not recognized as a clone?

Hello,
I currently my cameras setup so that the main and substreams are configured in the applicable settings for each camera; however, I also have the cameras added as a second camera only pulling the substream feed. The reason I do this is because then I can have the substreams recorded to a dedicated hard drive 24/7, while also recording the HD feeds 24/7 to a different hard drive (albeit retained a lot shorter). From what I can see, it appears that the second cameras (the ones that only have the substream) are pulling a second substream feed alongside the main camera. Does this sound correct or should Blue Iris be treating these as a clone?
