Just to report on the experience, I had my first auto-renewal go through. It was pretty painless. About 2 weeks prior I got an email notification (warning?) that it was coming up, the date it would occur, and the total amount that would be billed. Then on the actual day I got an email receipt, then a second email with the new year activation code. I pasted the code into my console, it was accepted, and I can continue on my day. Basically all worked as I would have expected it to!
