5.2.4 DirectX and D3D11 decoding

Post by MikeBwca »

This has me perplexed and a bit peeved!

When I switched to it, my cpu jumped up to a little over 60%. Switched back to NVidia and it's back to normal. I'd like to compare.
A little more in the BI help about this would be beneficial.

I'm running Windows 10 Home, on a AMD processor. I have DirectX12 installed.

I've run DXDiag and can't find anything about D3D11. This is what I find about 'd3d'...

So, apparently, I have D3D9, and not D3D11. How do I get D3D11?
Is DirectX VA2 and D3D11 for the newer graphic cards?

DirectX is updated via Windows Update.

Hi MikeBwca,

A web search found something for gamers:
D3D11 is a more modern version of the library with newer features, and can provide improved visual fidelity. It may also affect performance (positively or negatively, depending on how the game uses it and what hardware you have). To use D3D11 features you need Vista or better and a D3D11-capable graphics card.9 Dec 2013
And that was in 2013. I'll have a look around the web, but it would appear to be about getting the latest version of the library that will work with your gpu hardware. Time to check my old AMD server

So my Win10 server is also running DirectX 12, and that MS page shows that I will have 11.3 and 12. Also:
Updates will be available through Windows Update. There is no stand-alone package for these versions of DirectX.
My powers of deduction lead me to believe that this is D3D11 and D3D12.

I tried the new settings in BI5, but it made no difference. I didn't see any GPU activity in Task Manager, and cpu % stayed the same.

We need some more testers here

Thanks Tim.

Run Dxdiag, then save the output. Search the output for 'D3D', and you'll get a result similar to what I posted above. If you have D3D11 installed, it will be listed in the search results.
