use cameras motion detection or blue iris?

at present i'm using the latest version of blue iris and am detecting motion using blue iris' 'simple' setting
i'm wondering if i could use my Annke camera's built in motion detection and somehow get the camera to send a trigger to blue iris ro start recording?
whats the preferred method? blue iris, along with a setting other than simple? the csmera is simply used to detect people and pets. Also shadows seem to trigger it unecessarily?
