Compressing files

Does Blue Iris off anyway to compress stored or new files? I have 15 tb pool set up which fills up fast now,

Your best bet would be to convert them to the MP4 format for saving space.

Compressing video files often results in a larger file since most video formats are already compressed.

Thanks, it seems i am filling up much fast now than I did years ago. could it be the newer camera producing a larger file size for the same time frames? I added two of these now IPC-HFW5231E-ZE

If it started at the same time you added those cameras, then I'd suspect them. What settings did you use for the cameras?

As others have said, compressing a compressed file makes it bigger. Otherwise you could just keep compressing until you got to zero.

If your cameras are using Constant Bit Rate the calculation to byte/hr is pretty straight forward based on the video settings. VBR is a bit more vodoo magic to calculate expected results.

Actually the Blue Iris Status -> Cameras tab would probably be the most helpful

I am slightly confused . You want the status tab for each camera ?

I find the settings of the cameras in the camera web portal (not BI) to be more helpful. Many of us use D2D which just takes the camera output and puts it, as-received, to disk.
