Seems to have been solved in today’s BI update

Started after upgrading to 5.8.9.7

Seems like v2.5.5 was pulled again.

Yes, I had the same issue with CPAI v2.5.5.
Have rolled back to 2.5.4.

Didn't bother as recording and alert worked well. System is on a headless server, so need to RDP in.
BI reacted promptly and released an update to fix, so I saved 25 seconds by not rolling back

That's good news. I suggest turning off auto updates of any type and doing manual updates when you have the time to fix it. I am experiencing that some cameras remain indefinately in triggered/alerted state (red square and purple bell) after a confirmed alert.

Is there any logic or explanation behind this?
I do not recall having seen this until recent sw version.
