5.2.2.0 Update

Post by crosseyed »

THIS IS FOR THE DEV TEAM IF THEY'RE WATCHING

Running four H264 4K POE cameras using an Intel i5 on Windows 10 64bit with 32GB ram. With 5.2.1.4 CPU typically hovered around 28% and GPU around 20%. The GPU used was the integrated Intel HD 4600. After upgrading to 5.2.2.0 CPU is around 58% and GPU at 0%. In each camera setting the video acceleration which use to be set on Intel is now at disabled. Switching it back to Intel I see GPU spike and then go back to zero. The acceleration setting goes back to disabled.

Well that's something to look forward to. I just did a Check for Update and it says my 5.2.1.4 is up to date so no 5.2.2.0. Maybe they were watching and it was quickly yanked(?)

I also did the built in update check, and it didn't find it. I just happened to find myself on the BI website, and it was there.

No intel cpu here, but cpu loading is about the same as it was before.

Nice - The original post regarding 5.2.2.0 disappeared and I get credit for a post that no longer makes any sense. This whole thread should go away

The 5.2.2.1 update seems to have restored embedded GPU functionality

So this morning I awoke to no service running. Connected to workstation running BI and, as soon as I opened it, it pushed update version 5.2.2.2 - I can only guess that I had 5.2.2.0 or 5.2.2.1 in place as I have it set to auto-update.

Now the service checkbox is unchecked. Upon rechecking it, I get the usual "must restart" messaging. Restarting nets me this:

console could not connect to service process (2)

I've double-checked the blueirisservice.exe and had to change it back to logging on with the BI_svc account I'd created but that has netted me zero joy. Currently, only leaving the console open (HUGE resource hog) allows me to access cams, cams to record, etc.

Aaaaaaaaaand it's broken.

Same same same issue with double-clicking to go full screen. Maybe I'll try rolling back and see what happens.

EDIT: Rolled back to 5.2.0.5 and everything works perfectly. (A huge "Thank you!" to Reddawg for the rollback script!)

C'mon, after this update and rollback I think I can safely say it's not me.

It looks like updates v5.2.2.0 through 5.2.2.2 have been pulled from downloading and installing through the "Checking for new updates" feature in Blue Iris settings -> About tab. However, anyone that may have installed any of the above mentioned updates before they were pulled might want to consider reverting back to v5.2.1.4 or earlier. There have been a lot of reported problems on other forums concerning Hardware Acceleration (HA) not working with Updates 5.2.2.0 through 5.2.2.2.

Starting with Update v5.2.2.0 it implemented new features concerning HA, read below:
5.2.2 - March 20, 2020
Video components were updated and the Intel hardware decoding interface was redesigned
and recoded in an attempt to bring some missing features online such as H.265 decoding
and H.264 encoding. The 64-bit version is required for all hardware acceleration.
The BlueIrisService.exe was compiled for 64-bit and now uses updated methods to stop the
running BlueIris.exe without resorting to a force-close.
